DK – Lacy Matching Headband & Twisted Cowl

DK – Lacy Matching Headband & Twisted Cowl

I thought of making a thin lacy cowl that could be twisted and then sewn into a circle to just pop over your head.

I looked on the internet for a knitted lacy pattern that I thought would work.  I was looking for a nice lacy pattern that didn’t have too many stitches to the repeat, wasn’t too lacy, and that didn’t have many rows to the repeat.

I thought this one looked about right.

The pattern was only a 4 row repeat with moss stitch in between and on the edges to strengthen it and keep the edges firm.

The headband needed to be knitted wide enough so that when it was twisted and sewn up it would still have a decent width to it.

I needed to twist the ends in the oppersite direction 6 - 8 times before sewing the headband up
I needed to twist the ends in the opposite direction 6 – 8 times before sewing the headband up

Although I initially thought I would just design a cowl pattern and not make a headband pattern I thought of a design for the headband that would match the cowl.

It is the same lace pattern with less number of stitches in the middle section.  Then just knit a small band of moss stitch to sew round it and make the shape of the headband.

I designed the pattern to be knitted in DK so that it was warm yet light round the neck to wear.
