Back with a New Discovery: Shadow Knitting and Hidden Hearts!

Back with a New Discovery: Shadow Knitting and Hidden Hearts!

It’s been a while since my last blog post — things have been very busy behind the scenes here, and I’ve not had time to work on new patterns or projects using purchased wools. But I’m hoping that’s about to change!

Recently, I came across something new to me — shadow knitting, also known as illusion knitting. If you haven’t seen it before, it’s a clever technique that reveals hidden images depending on the angle you view your knitting from. Straight on, it might look like stripes… but tilt it slightly, and a secret design appears like magic.

I was instantly hooked. With a new baby in the family, I started thinking how sweet it would be to knit a few small items with hidden images — maybe some tiny hearts that only show when viewed from just the right direction. A little bit of secret love knitted in.

To get started, I found a fantastic free heart pattern on Ravelry that’s perfect for learning illusion knitting. The instructions are clear, and the accompanying YouTube video is absolutely brilliant — really well explained and easy to follow. I highly recommend giving it a go:

Big thanks to the designer and video creator — it takes so much time and effort to make quality resources like these, so if you try it, do show them some appreciation.

I’ll be adding a short video soon showing my version of the heart square, so keep an eye out for that. And hopefully, this marks the start of more regular blog posts and new patterns again!

Happy knitting,
Sabina
